3rd Party Fundraisers:
"Second Hand" Saints
Three years ago, the Habels
offered to help make a
difference in the life of a child
by donating a percentage of their
annual sales to The Bridge. They have
been faithful in the contributions since
and have donated enough funds to
offer services to more than 500 child
victims in the Panhandle community.
How incredible to touch the lives of so
many children!
They own and operate America’s
Best Thrift Store, where they turn items
discarded by others into treasured
opportunities for children in need. In
addition to their financial contribution,
they provide vouchers for low-income
families coming through The Bridge
to come into their store and get the
clothes and household items they
need. Cindy serves on the board and
commented, “Everyone involved on the
board and with The Bridge is so caring
and passionate about helping.”
How you can help them in
their mission:
Donate used clothing, knick-knacks,
small appliances and household items
to America’s Best Thrift Store. The store
is located at 16th and Washington. Or
call 806-376-1300 to arrange a pick up.
(Each donation is tax-deductible and
donation receipts are available.)
"Scent-sational" Women
These two ladies make the world a better
place. Better smelling, better looking, and
better for children coming through The
Bridge. Three years ago Virginia and her daughter-inlaw
started their ministry of helping abused children
by selling scented stuffed animals in Muskogee,
Oklahoma to benefit a children’s home there.
Virginia came to Amarillo to prepare a rental home for
resale after the death of her husband. Her daughter-inlaw
came to visit, contacted The Bridge and pledged
to raise $5,000 for the center. So, Virginia stayed in
Amarillo to meet her commitment and is now on her
second year as a resident of the city and volunteer for
the center.
She is joined in her outreach to abused children
by Jean “Grannie” O’Brien who works side by side
with her over 40 hours a week, sometimes 12 hours
a day, creating their wonderfully scented goods
to sell about town. These ladies clip coupons, shop
sales, scent rice, cut fabric, sew pillows, stuff pillows
and refresh gently used stuffed animals all week in
preparation for the weekend sale. They try to tailor
the merchandise to meet the occasion such as
Mother’s Day, Graduation, rodeos, golf tournaments
and NASCAR. They have even recruited volunteers to
help them sell their trinkets.
“Sometimes my efforts to raise money and awareness
for The Bridge leave me physically drained but my spirit
soars as I feel truly blessed for being able to help. I truly
believe that when the Lord closed one door with the
death of my husband, He opened another for me and
that has been The Bridge,” expresses Virginia when
asked about the tremendous effort she pours into her
work for the center.
How you can help them in
their mission:
If you own or manage a business or are hosting an
event where these ladies could set up a table to sell
their wares, please contact The Bridge. Stop by and
say hi when you see them stationed outside a local
Wal-Mart or United Supermarket or the Petro Shopping
Center. Donate large stuffed animals, new fabric,
cotton, thread and rice. To contact these ladies call 806-379-1280
